House Rules

For the most part, we follow the rules of Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition fairly well. However, there are some rules that just don’t make sense, some that we’ve already broken and a few that the 4e guidelines are a little vague about.
Any rules that get changed during the course of play become house rules and they will be posted here.

House Rules:

  • Turn Rotation:
According to the DMG, turn rotation is determined at the beginning of each encounter when the combatants will roll initiative. Rotation will then progress according to initiative from highest to lowest. I personally think that this is retarded. Therefore turn rotation will begin with the combatant directly to the left of the Dungeon master and will then progress in a clockwise direction. This order will be recorded and will stay as it is for the duration of the campaign.
  • Awarding of XP:
According to the DMG, all XP for any given encounter is distributed evenly among the player characters. Instead, I will evenly distribute half the XP for any given encounter among the player characters. The other half will be distributed to player characters as the monsters are killed.
  • Distributing Treasure:
There is no set method for distributing treasure in any of the guides. However, it should be fairly simple. Treasure will be distributed according to its value evenly among the player characters. Magic items will be given out in the order of combat. At any time, any player character can swap/sell their equipment with/to any other player character.
